Résumé

Before the digital revolution in movie production, DOPs had a pretty clear understanding of what was happening inside their movie cameras and how to achieve the look and feel they were after. Nowadays cameras have effectively become black boxes, because manufacturers want to prevent competitors to discover what is going on in their products. Additionally, disabling features in software forces users to buy higher priced products or keeps them locked into using accessories from a single company. The Apertus project is taking a different approach. It is developing a high-tech cinema camera without any secrets or restrictions ! Knowledge is actively shared and everybody is encouraged to improve the camera. The Apertus project supports FLOSS and open hardware. Together with artists and filmmakers it is developing an open camera filmmakers will love to use. This talk will introduce Appertus and the technology used, including sample footage of projects shot with Apertus.
