As the various social media platforms forge ahead in their attempt to make everything we do trackable, shareable and open people are starting to become uneasy with just how much about themselves is floating around the web and how much time they are spending in numerous pokes, likes and the like. The web2.0 suicidemachine promises an easy and chiq way of getting rid of any social network by automatically cleaning all traces of yourself from your social media past. Gordan Savicic will present some background information about their ongoing fight with Facebook’s lawyers and demystify other stories in and around the web2.0 suicidemachine.

Biographie

Gordan Savičić is fascinated by new issues of our contemporary existence, such as the creation of mega-cities and the effects of new media on subjectivity and its deep social implications. Virtual is not the non-real, but actually the more-real. He is interested in imposing and applying the assumed (computed) reality within different realms to discuss its potential future and exploit. His works and projects often include game cultures, digital and urban interventions as well as open source technologies. They range from location-based tools to conceptual software modifications and tangible interaction devices. His MA thesis aimed to create awareness of data-mining and surveillance strategies within social networks. Together with moddr_ and WORM he realized various new media related exhibitions, talks and workshops which have been presented internationally. His participation in collaborative projects and performances have been shown in several countries and received various awards, such as Japan (dis-locate), Germany (Transmediale), Austria (Ars electronica) and Spain (Arco), among others. Savičić has been teaching new media art practices at various schools and universities in the Netherlands (Piet Zwart Institute, Willem de Kooning, Geert Rietveld Academy), Switzerland (zhdk - Hochschule der Künste) and in Austria (University of applied arts), among others. He currently lives and works between Lausanne, Berlin and Den Haag.
